Check the correct rate for your goods or services (HSN/SAC) before invoicing.

About this tool

The calculator works in both directions. Start from a price before tax to find the GST and invoice total, or start from a GST-inclusive price to find the taxable value hidden inside it.

  • Same-state sale: GST is split equally into CGST and SGST (or UTGST in a Union Territory).
  • Sale to another state: the full amount is IGST.
  • Rates: the main slabs since 22 September 2025 are 5%, 18% and 40%. Use “Other” for special rates such as 3% on gold or 0.25% on rough diamonds.

Use it when quoting a price, checking a supplier’s bill or working out the margin on an MRP that already includes GST.

How to fill it in

  1. AmountThe price in rupees. It can include paise.
  2. GST rateThe rate for your goods (HSN code) or services (SAC code). Pick Other to type any rate.
  3. The amount isBefore GST if tax is still to be added; Including GST if the amount is the final price, such as an MRP.
  4. SupplySame state when you and the buyer’s place of supply are in the same state; Other state for interstate sales and most exports of goods.

Reading the results

Price before GST
The taxable value. When you start from an inclusive amount it is: amount × 100 ÷ (100 + rate).
CGST and SGST, or IGST
The tax lines to show on the invoice, each to the paisa.
Total GST
The tax you collect and pay through GSTR-3B, less any input tax credit you can claim.
Invoice total
What the buyer pays. You may round the invoice to the nearest rupee.
Example: A product sells for ₹11,800 including 18% GST within the same state. Taxable value is 11,800 × 100 ÷ 118 = ₹10,000, with CGST ₹900 and SGST ₹900. Sold to another state, it would carry IGST of ₹1,800 instead.

Recent changes

  1. 57th GST Council: no rate changes

The Council left rates unchanged and said future rate changes will be decided once a year and take effect from the start of the next financial year. Most procedural changes start on 1 April 2027.

  2. GST 2.0 slabs: 5%, 18% and 40%

On the 56th GST Council’s recommendation, most items at 12% moved to 5% and most at 28% moved to 18%. A 40% rate now applies to luxury and “sin” goods.

  3. GSTR-3B tax liability locked

From the July 2025 tax period, the auto-filled liability in GSTR-3B can’t be edited. Fix sales figures in GSTR-1 or GSTR-1A before filing. Returns more than three years late can no longer be filed.
